Implication for business of the Carbon Polution Reduction Scheme (CPRS)

The CPRS is the Government’s primary policy tool to reduce Australia’s greeenhouse gas emissions, with an emissions trading scheme that seeks to impose caps on certain sectors of the Australian economy. The program is intended to commence operations in 2010. The design and implementation of an emissions trading scheme will have far reaching implications for all Australian businesses - some of the implications include the increased costs associated with putting a price on carbon, risks and opportunities that are likely to arise for high carbon intensive goods and services, and potential for increased costs associated with mitigation and adaption to climate change.

Ms Ellis, admitted as a solicitor in 2007, has a wealth of experience in Planning, Environment and Local Government areas, including tendering, contracting, freedom of information applications and determinations.

Mr Kelty is employed by environmental firm Advitech, and is Chairman of the Newcastle Branch of the Australian Institute of Energy and also leader of the Energy Efficiency Opportunity Hunter Group (under the AGO).
