A summary of the Solar Dawn Project (plus HEI’s AGM)

Wednesday, August 17, 2011 - 4:00pm - Wednesday, August 17, 2011 - 6:00pm

AREVA’s Wil Gardner has agreed to present to the Institute about the Solar Dawn project (www.solardawn.com.au). This project is to be a 250 MW solar thermal gas hybrid project, using AREVA’s Australian-pioneered “Compact Linear Fresnel Receiver” (CLFR) solar thermal technology. It uses storable solar energy and a gas backup system to enable the generation of electricity whenever it’s needed most – even when the sun isn’t shining. If constructed today, it would be the largest plant of this type in the world. It will have a total capital value of approximately AU$1.2 billion, receiving over AU$450m of grant funding from the Australian Government as well as assistance from the Queensland Government.

Also, the Annual General Meeting of HEI will be held in conjuction with the seminar. All members are invited to attend, and are encouraged to get invovled with the operation of the committee. Chair and Treasurers reports from the last year will be presented. An outline for the year ahead will also be given.
